What 64x64 is good for
On a 32 px tile grid a 64x64 sprite covers four tiles. That makes it the natural size for anything that should feel big next to the player.
- Bosses and large enemies: dragons, golems, treants, giant beetles.
- Main characters in games where the camera sits close, like brawlers, fighting games and card battlers.
- Buildings and big props on a 32 px map: a mushroom house, a shop, a well.
- Portraits for dialogue boxes and character select screens.
It's four times the pixels of 32x32. You stop choosing between a sword and a belt buckle and get to have both.
How to make one
- In Text to Sprite, choose the Exact size tile.
- Enter 64 for width and height. Describe the subject, its pose and what it's made of.
- Generate. About 15 to 30 seconds later you have a 64x64 transparent PNG.

Prompting tips for 64x64
- Name four or five details. There's room for them now: "a stone golem with moss on its shoulders, glowing blue eyes and cracked fists".
- Say what things are made of. Wood, iron, cloth, scales. At this size different materials can actually look different.
- Give it a pose. "Rearing up", "arms crossed", "mid-swing". A big sprite standing straight looks stiff.
- Pick the view: three-quarter for top-down games, side view for platformers and fighting games, front view for portraits.
- Describe the subject, not the scene. You get a transparent PNG, so "in a dark cave" adds nothing you can use.
- Keep a family consistent. For a set of bosses or a street of houses, repeat the same view and style words in every prompt.
Bigger than 64x64?
Exact size goes up to 128 px a side. Above 64, odd sizes round up to even, so ask for 96 or 128 rather than 97. Here's a 32, a 64 and a 96 at the same zoom.
Exact size or Micro?
Micro also goes up to 64x64 squares, from 3 credits, with a closed 1px outline. If a square 64x64 is all you need, it's the cheaper place to start.
Exact size is 8 credits and earns it when the shape isn't square or the sprite needs to be bigger: 48x64 archers, 96x64 ships, 128x128 castles. See the custom size sprite generator for those.

Does the PNG come out at exactly 64x64?
Yes. Set 64 by 64 and the file is 64 by 64 pixels with a transparent background. One art pixel is one image pixel, so it scales cleanly by whole numbers in your engine.
Is 64x64 a good size for a boss?
It's a common one. On a 32 px tile grid a 64x64 sprite covers four tiles, so it looks big next to a 32x32 player. For something bigger still, Exact size goes up to 128 px a side.
Micro or Exact size for 64x64?
Micro also makes 64x64 squares, from 3 credits, with a closed 1px outline, so start there if a square is all you need. Exact size costs 8 credits and handles shapes Micro can't, like 48x64, 96x64 or 128x128.
Can I make a 96x96 or 128x128 sprite?
Yes. Exact size takes any width and height from 16 to 128 px, with the long side at most 4 times the short side. Above 64 px, odd sizes round up to even, so 97 becomes 98.

Can I scale it down to 32x32 later?
No. The PNG is final and there's no resize step. If you need a 32x32 version as well, generate one at 32x32 so it's drawn for that size.
